Through text and photography, Claire Laude's book uses examples from two Mediterranean countries, Italy and Greece, to explore our relationship with the land and the notion of traces and their permanence in the landscape. What traces can history and human activity leave in a rural landscape? What is the meaning of these residues? By exploring the origin, evolution and function of two traditions, and by studying the buildings that house them, Claire Laude examines the notion of imprint and questions the need to pay attention to what exists, both memory and resources.
