Aficiones Electivas

Eduardo Barrera’s Aficiones Electives is held in the archive as a loose series of individual booklets.

The work draws on the format of the fanzine: each issue follows its own theme, visual logic, or specific graphic approach. Titles such as El Pez Masturbador or Black Kitten point to this open, serial structure, in which no overarching system of organization takes precedence.

Rather than following a fixed underlying structure, the work develops through drawing, copying, repetition, and variation. The pleasure of the graphic form is combined with an exploration of the artistic possibilities of the copy: images are reproduced, altered, shifted, and made legible in new ways. Aficiones Electives thus appears less as a finished book than as an ongoing process — a collection of booklets in which change, appropriation, and continuous development are central to the work.
