Richard Artschwager ... is perhaps best known for his use of industrial materials in making sculptures whose straight-edged forms blur the distinction between furniture, art object, and image.
(German/English)
Though he may not be a household name, Richard Artschwager is one of the most influential artists of his generation. He is perhaps best known for his use of industrial materials in making sculptures whose straight-edged forms blur the distinction between furniture, art object, and image. Artschwager's works may be approached as any or all of these things simultaneously; their meanings and identities are always shifting. And so the title Up and Down/Back and Forth is indeed fitting. Artschwager's works vary from two- and three-dimensional pieces in plywood, metal, and painted formica to elegant drawings. (Quelle: Deutsche Guggenheim Homepage)
