The extensive catalogue documents a programmatic group exhibition of Austrian contemporary art of the 1980s and brings together central artistic positions of the period.
Among the artists represented are Siegfried Anzinger, Christian Ludwig Attersee, Erwin Bohatsch, Günter Brus, Heinz Cibulka, Bruno Gironcoli, Peter Kogler, Brigitte Kowanz, Maria Lassnig, Alois Mosbacher, Hermann Nitsch, Oswald Oberhuber, Walter Pichler, Arnulf Rainer, Hubert Schmalix, Rudolf Schwarzkogler, Elmar Trenkwalder, Lois Weinberger, and Erwin Wurm. Aug um Aug was published in 1986 on the occasion of the opening of Galerie Krinzinger in Vienna, at Seilerstätte 16.
The catalogue is more than a documentation of an opening exhibition. It offers a snapshot of an artistic field in which different generations, media, and approaches encounter one another. Painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, Actionism, and conceptual practices appear side by side, showing the breadth of an art scene shaped by post-war modernism, Viennese Actionism, New Painting, and the positions of the 1980s.
The publication comprises 305 pages with numerous illustrations in black and white and colour. It was published by Galerie Krinzinger as a hardcover volume with dust jacket in the format 27 × 22 cm. As the catalogue accompanying the Vienna opening of Galerie Krinzinger, Aug um Aug has both documentary and art-historical significance: it marks an institutional moment in which the gallery made its programme visible in Vienna and brought key positions of Austrian art into a new constellation.
