Bend a Bow
Rare BookOne of the central components of this initiative is the Artists-and-Architects-in-Residence program. In this context,
Kunst und Kultur and the MAK Center launched a new biennial exhibition series entitled Garage Exchange Vienna – Los Angeles. The series invites Austrian and Vienna-based former MAK-Schindler fellows to collaborate with artists and architects of their choice from Los Angeles. Together they develop site-specific projects for the exhibition space located on the rooftop garage of the Mackey Apartments.
The first exhibition in this series, Bend a Bow, was conceived by former MAK-Schindler fellow Sonia Leimer in collaboration with the artist Stephanie Taylor. Their project explores the layered dynamics and construction of narrative. As part of the installation, the two artists invited the acclaimed avant-garde filmmaker Barbara Hammer—whose work they consider closely related to their own—to present her film Time Bent.
The MAK Center for Art and Architecture developed this program with the aim of fostering dialogue and questioning boundaries, whether geographical or disciplinary.
