Matthäus (graphics) using the iterative process typical of her work, which she sees as part of her Gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art) developed since 1986. It shows exemplary works and is itself a self-referential example of her work. In terms of content and form, the images and texts by the five authors are closely intertwined and revolve around the question of the relationship and identity of the artwork, the artist and the recipient. ‘When encountering abstract art, the human being is neither art itself, nor an autonomously creating subject, nor merely an outside observer, but stands at odds with art, enclosed by it as something excluded.’
