Der in New York lebende Künstler Matthew Buckingham präsentiert in der Factory des Museums Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien (MUMOK) seine neue Filminstallation A Man of the Crowd. Buckinghams 16mm Film basiert auf einer kurzen Erzählung von Edgar Allan Poe und wurde im Sommer 2003 an verschiedenen Schauplätzen in Wien gedreht. Neben der Filminstallation präsentiert Matthew Buckingham im Rahmen seiner Ausstellung A Man of the Crowd ein Buch, das die bereits angesprochenen Fragen zu Narrativität, Bedeutungs- und Geschichtskonstruktion künstlerisch weiterführt.

Die Uraufführung der rekonstruierten Premierenfassung von Fritz Langs Filmklassiker „Metropolis“ am 12. Februar 2010 wurde schon vorab als filmhistorisches Ereignis gefeiert: Nach dem spektakulären Fund einer lange unerkannt gebliebenen 16mm-Kopie mit rund 25 Minuten unbekannter Filmszenen in Argentinien scheint sich die Vision vieler Filmhistoriker und Filmliebhaber endlich zu erfüllen: „Metropolis“ so zu sehen, wie er von den Filmemachern, insbesondere seinem Regisseur Lang und der Drehbuchautorin Thea von Harbou erdacht war.

Fast 20 Jahre lang hatte sich der charismatische französische Philosoph Gilles Deleuze dem Vereinnahmungsapparat Fernsehen erfolgreich entzogen - bis 1988 seine ehemalige Studentin, Freundin und Co-Autorin (Dialoge) Claire Parnet das Unmögliche möglich macht.
Deleuze lässt sich auf ein Experiment ein, das das Fernsehen so noch nicht gesehen hat: 7 1/2 h freie Rede uncut. Einzige Bedingung - das Material darf erst nach seinem Tod ausgestrahlt werden.

In 2012 Simon Starling presented Black Drop, a film about the transit of Venus observations and their relationship to early Cinema. Predicated on the idea that the 2012 transit may be the last to be recorded on celluloid (the next transit will occur in 2117), Black Droptracks the development of the French astronomer Jules César Janssen’s innovative “photographic revolver”, a device designed to counter human error in timing the crucial moments of Venus’ contact with the edge of the sun. The device was influential in the development of the Lumiére brothers’ cinematograph.Together with a small film crew, Starling travelled to Hawaii and Tahiti to observe and film the 2012 transit of Venus, and the sites of previous observations and photo-documentation (Point Venus, Tahiti and Honolulu). The recording of the event formed the basis for the production of a film about the relationship between the transit of Venus and the history of cinema, as framed by the parenthesis formed by the 1874 and 2012 transits.
