We shall attempt to define the theme of the upcoming Fotograf Festival from its middle point, at the borderline between culture and nature, and in relation to how that borderline is rewritten, to the points of overlap sought between them, and to the strange constellations in which artificial things become natural and natural artificial.

In her serial photo montages "Double Life" (1975) Sanja Ivekovic juxtaposes media images with private pictures that contain parallels in poses and props. The found-footage material employed ranges from advertisements and pictures of Marilyn Monroe, to newspaper cuttings that show, on the one hand, everyday misfortune, and, on the other, the glorified life of high society. In addition to the photo montages, video works by the artist made since the mid-seventies will be shown, in which she features as a protagonist. Inscribing herself into the public discourse, Ivekovic thus makes visible collective social codes of behavior and their origins in the gender-specific, standardized patterns employed by mass media.

Michael Turnheim unternimmt anhand klassischer Texte von Freud über Trauer und Melancholie, Krieg und Tod sowie über den Witz den anspruchsvollen Versucht einer kritischen Selbstthematisierung der Psychoanalyse. (zit. vom Umschlag).

Als Texte zur Kunst das Fach "Kunstgeschichte" im Sommer 1994 erstmals zum Thema einer Ausgabe machte, stand die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit den Methoden und Gegenstandsbereichen der Disziplin noch ganz im Zeichen des Theorieimports aus dem angloamerikanischen Kontext, wo Dekonstruktion, Psychoanalyse, Queer und Cultural Studies die traditionell -dominierenden Ansätze und Lektüreverfahren von Historiografie und Ikonografie neu konfigurierten oder sogar als bevorzugte Interpretationsmodelle- abzulösen begannen.

„Gespräche“ stellen eines der produktivsten Formate der Theorie- und Diskursproduktion dar. Man denke hier nur an die Gespräche zwischen Claire Parnet und Gilles Deleuze (oder das dialogische Prinzip, das den gemeinsamen Publikationen mit Félix Guattari ganz offenkundig zugrunde liegt) oder die Interviews, die Pierre Bourdieu und sein Team für das Buch „Das Elend der Welt“ geführt haben.

Inzwischen steht „Kulturpolitik" längst nicht mehr nur für die Verteilung von Mitteln für Kunst, Bildung und Wissenschaft, Förderung durch den Staat oder andere Institutionen. Es hat eine extreme Ausweitung ihres Bedeutungsfeldes stattgefunden, was KulturpessimistInnen immer wieder mit einer Aufweichung des Begriffs „Kultur" zu erklären versuchen.

Jubiläen gehen gewöhnlich mit „Rückblicken" einher — man hält Sozusagen kurz inne, um erstaunt festzustellen, dass es einen immer noch gibt. Der Rückblick ist aber auch eine Blickrichtung, die der des Zeitschriftenmachens genau entgegengesetzt ist.

Im Zuge der Kreditkrise sind die Verkäufe auf dem kürzlich noch boomenden Kunstmarkt innerhalb von nur wenigen Wochen fast vollständig zusammengebrochen. Auch das Interesse der Lifestylepresse für die Ereignisse der Kunstwelt hat merklich nachgelassen, weil es kaum noch von sensationellen Markterfolgen oder opulenten Partys zu berichten gibt.
