The Mock and other superstition is a quarterly fanzine exploring the relation between artists writing and writing-as-art through a frontal confrontation of writers, curators and visual artists with the written word.
Basing each issue on a loose thematic title, The Mock creates a fluid space to research and experiment with writing as a parallel and yet autonomous art practice.

If you do dare to mention beauty, then some well-intentioned idiot says “beauty is subjective”, as if this in- disputable truth (given that beauty is, of course, subjective) would implicitly mean that nothing subjective and shared (or universal, or common, or whatever you’d like to call it) could possibly exist; as if subjects could never agree, or could never admit their shared nature and recognize themselves in what, in the end, is nothing more than this: the sudden appearance of something that we all like, something to which we would all like to surrender ourselves (i.e., the sudden appearance of beauty). So, yes: beauty is subjective. But this is no reason to stop worrying about beauty.

Im letzten Jahr von Franz West, Clegg & Guttmann, Benedikt Ledebur und Rudolf Polanszky als philosophisch-poetisch-artistischer, neuer Entwurf des berühmten Innsbrucker "Brenner" konzipiert, hat sich der Kreis der Künstler und Autoren im Zeichen Wittgensteins in diesem Jahr erweitert.

Minimal Art seemed harmless: just a few hard-edged, greyish pieces of metal laid on the ground, some bricks aligned a certain way, heaps of logs. Minimal Art looked unnecessarily stubborn and a bit stupid, but nobody would ever have thought it could do any harm.

A blueprint is an imaginary structure that gestures towards the future. It is a template, plan, draft or model. The issue invites you to explore the relation between promise and reality, between model and outcome, the fictional and the tangible, potentiality, mapping what lies beneath, what is to come.

Bereits die Dokumentationen „Zwischen Kunst und Design. Neue Formen der Ästhetik (Band 66, 1983) und „Das deutsche Avantgarde-Design (Band 82, 1985/86) deuteten daraufhin, dass der Designbegriff neu gefasst und nicht dem Druck technischer Innovation und Funktionalisierung ausgeliefert sein darf.

Das vorliegende, von Paolo Bianchi herausgegebene "Kleine Lexikon der Künstler-Paare" unternimmt eine diskursive Auseinandersetzung mit dem Phänomen der partnerschaftlichen Gemeinschaftsarbeit an einem Kunstwerk.

Seit den politischen Umwälzungen im Jahre 1990 hat sich die Rezeption der Kunst aus der - nun früheren - DDR grundlegend gewandelt: Auf der Biennale Venedig 1990 rückten der nationale Pavillon und die zentrale Sonderausstellung "Ambiente Berlin" die DDR-Kunst aus ihrem bisherigen Schattendasein in den Mittelpunkt des Interesses.

Die Fähigkeit, die Welt in Bildern zu sehen, schafft unentwegt und unaufhörlich neue Differenzen zwischen dem Wirklichen und dem Symbolischen. Zwischen Wiederholung und Erneuerung spielt sich die künstlerische Formung kultureller Leitbilder ab.
