Dabei sind Transformationsprozesse von Material in den digitalen Raum und zurück eine zentrale Frage. Anhand des HKB-weiten Laboratoriums mit dem Titel «MaterialDigital» im Frühlingssemester analysiert und experimentiert die HKB-Zeitung 3/2017 die Übergänge, die Momente der unmittelbaren Berührung von Material und Digital und deren launenhafte Nähe.

Im April 1995 erschien die erste Ausgabe dieser Zeitschrift, damals noch unter dem Namen springer – Hefte für Gegenwartskunst. Im Bild des Chamäleons, welches das Cover des ersten Heftes zierte, war eine Wandlungsfähigkeit mit angedeutet, die sich über vierzig Ausgaben hinweg unter Beweis stellen sollte.
