Das vorliegende Heft von Texte zur Kunst möchte unter dem Titel „Medien“ mehr adressieren als die Hardware und Software, die man objektiv „Technik“ nennt.

Hartnäckig halten sich die Fantasien einer einstmals reinen Fotografie, in der sich die externe Realität und der menschliche Geist gleichsam objektiv ins Bild gebannt hätten – doch tatsächlich näherbringen konnte uns das fotografische Bild dieser sogenannten „wirklichen Welt“ niemals.

Wenn Texte zur Kunst anlässlich ihres Jubiläums den „Kanon“ zum Thema macht, dann liegt dem auch ein selbstreflexiver Impuls zugrunde: Die Zeitschrift gehört inzwischen selbst zu den Institutionen der Kanonbildung. In ihrer 25-jährigen Geschichte hat sie nicht nur bestimmte Methoden der Kritik forciert, sondern auch entscheidend zur Durchsetzung zahlreicher Künstler/innen beigetragen.

Wahlen zu kommentieren ist wie einen Witz erklären – wenn selbiger auch noch ein schlechter ist, hilft allein Polemik. Auch wenn es preaching to the choir ist und Fakten gegen Irrsinn nichts ausrichten, hegen wir dennoch die Hoffnung, dass die hier versammelten Texte unserer erlesenen Autorinnen und Autoren ein kleine Vademecum gegen den grassierenden morbus volk bieten.
