Während sie Damwild in einem Gebiet verfolgt, in dem früher Tagebau betrieben wurde, entdeckt Kat Dogtok ein Zickzack-Symbol, das mit einer schmalen Stiftspitze in einer dunklen Unterführung für Wildtiere geschrieben wurde. Die anschließenden unheimlichen Begegnungen und der zeitliche sowie räumliche Zauber, den dieses Zeichen ausstrahlt, sind so beeindruckend, dass Dogtok ihnen nicht mehr entkommen kann. Was oder wer steckt hinter den Zickzack-Markierungen?
