In 2018, the Museum Villa Stuck presented a comprehensive retrospective with works by the goldsmith and silversmith Rudolf Bott. The book accompanying the exhibition is a 672-page monumental work. In his work, Terence Koh mobilizes seduction, lust and desire. These moments exemplify a strategy that integrates a queer, polymorphously perverse approach into art production. The meaning produced by his objects is tightly interwoven with both private narration and a wide range of subcultural fields of association. Koh frequently employs trivial materials, which are then transformed in the artistic process and transposed into an almost classical aesthetic.

Minimal Art seemed harmless: just a few hard-edged, greyish pieces of metal laid on the ground, some bricks aligned a certain way, heaps of logs. Minimal Art looked unnecessarily stubborn and a bit stupid, but nobody would ever have thought it could do any harm.

Ein wesentliches Charakteristikum von Textilien ist ihr Beziehungsreichtum. Ihre Aktualität und Historizität beziehen sie aus Kunst und Kultur- ebenso wie Medien-, Sozial- und Technikgeschichte, sie repräsentieren Traditionen der angewandten und der bildenden Kunst, changieren zwischen Formalismus und Funktionalismus und vermitteln als Objekte und Verfahrensweise zwischen Selbst- und Weltverhältnissen, affekt- und wissensgesteuerten Prozessen der Aneignung. Aufgrund ihrer mehrfachen Funktion – als Gebrauchsgegenstand und abstrakte (Formen-)Sprache – zeigen sich in Textilien – verstanden als Handlungszusammenhang – spezifische Verflechtungen, die seit der Moderne in zunehmendem Maße die Relationen zwischen Subjekt und Objekt, materieller und immaterieller, künstlerischer und handwerklicher Arbeit sowie kulturellen Austauschverhältnissen transformiert haben.

Abweichend von der journalistischen Routine des Interviews, zeigt sich hier der Versuch, aus der unbefangenen Begegnung eine eigenständige Form zu entwickeln, die nicht dem Schema der Prominentenbefragung und dem Gebot des pointierten Statements gehorcht, sondern an der Idee einer souveränen Diskussion orientiert ist.

Mit ihrer starken Präsenz entwickeln die Skulpturen einen wesenhaften, körperlichen Charakter und lenken die Aufmerksamkeit darauf, wie sich die Dinge, der Raum und wir als Betrachter_innen zueinander verhalten.

Mode als Kunst im Film und als Teil der Filmkunst: In diesem Band wird nach jenem vielseitigen Verhältnis von Mode und Film gefragt, bei dem Kleider mehr sind als ein funktionales Mittel der Filmdramaturgie und selbst Akteur werden.

State of Sabotage's Stamp Edition

Poor Man's Expression examines the relationship between film, video, technology, and art, with a particular focus on the reciprocal influences between conceptual art and experimental film. The publication is based on the eponymous exhibition in Berlin in 2006, but represents an independent compendium of texts and images beyond the show.

This publication documents the ceramic works of the Viennese company Brüder Schwadron, known for its distinctive tile and architectural ceramics that adorned numerous residential and commercial buildings around 1900. Accompanying the exhibition, the book includes new photographs by Lisa Rastl, historical imagery, and scholarly essays by Rainald Franz, Andreas Lehne, Kathrin Pokorny-Nagel, and Tina Zickler. At its core, the project continues an act of remembrance—tracing surviving examples of the firm’s work and acknowledging the aesthetic contribution the Schwadron family made to Vienna’s urban culture. The company and family, both of Jewish origin, were destroyed under the Nazi regime. This volume forms part of an ongoing, participatory research initiative aimed at re-inscribing these erased histories into the city’s cultural memory.
