If you do dare to mention beauty, then some well-intentioned idiot says “beauty is subjective”, as if this in- disputable truth (given that beauty is, of course, subjective) would implicitly mean that nothing subjective and shared (or universal, or common, or whatever you’d like to call it) could possibly exist; as if subjects could never agree, or could never admit their shared nature and recognize themselves in what, in the end, is nothing more than this: the sudden appearance of something that we all like, something to which we would all like to surrender ourselves (i.e., the sudden appearance of beauty). So, yes: beauty is subjective. But this is no reason to stop worrying about beauty.

In his work, Terence Koh mobilizes seduction, lust and desire. These moments exemplify a strategy that integrates a queer, polymorphously perverse approach into art production. The meaning produced by his objects is tightly interwoven with both private narration and a wide range of subcultural fields of association. Koh frequently employs trivial materials, which are then transformed in the artistic process and transposed into an almost classical aesthetic.

Sie stehen exemplarisch für die Strategie, queere, polymorph perverse Zugänge in die künstlerische Produktion einfließen zu lassen. Minimal Art seemed harmless: just a few hard-edged, greyish pieces of metal laid on the ground, some bricks aligned a certain way, heaps of logs. Minimal Art looked unnecessarily stubborn and a bit stupid, but nobody would ever have thought it could do any harm.

Die Publikation hält sich an die Spielregeln des surrealistischen "cadavre exquis", jenes Spiels, bei dem jeder Mitspieler einen Teil seiner Figur beisteuert, ohne die vorherigen und nachfolgenden Teile zu kennen.

End of Collecting! Mit dieser Situation ist irgendwann jeder Sammler, jeder Künstler konfrontiert. Es reift die Erkenntnis, dass jetzt langsam »Schluss« ist, dass die Anzahl der erworbenen resp. erschaffenen Kunstgüter nicht mehr weiter anwachsen sollen.

Im Sommer 2015 durchquerte Hans Schabus auf seinem Fahrrad die USA von West nach Ost. Täglich an high noon fotografierte er was ihn umgab und des Abends sandte er eine Postkarte an sich selbst.
