With structured entries, its goal is to create a tool for the intellectual grasping of the processes of social and political change in countries that call themselves "countries of transformation" or are described by this term. The Atlas of Transformation was first published in Czech and it contains more than 200 "entries" and key terms of transformation.

The physical form of the book explored with photographs of reflections, that are positioned with the line of symmetry aligned with the pages binding. The turning of the pages echoes and adds depth to the two dimensional plane of each photo. (ref. the pealing apart of ink blot paintings, Rorschach test cards). The reader is goaded to put stress on the intersection of pages, generating a morphologic change in the shape of the book, producing creases on the spine.

In public spaces, statues in particular are seen to represent systems of political rule. They mark squares, urban nexuses, and mountain ranges--visible from afar. Once erected, they serve as a timeless demonstration of authority, emphasising irrefutable legitimacy.But how is power depicted today? Are statues still a democratically tenable form?

Exploring African influences on modernist avant-gardes, Saâdane Afif (born 1970) riffs on André Breton's anthology of the same name for this catalogue accompanying his show at MMK Zollamt. Mierle Laderman Ukeles's manifesto ''Maintenance Art--Proposal for an Exhibition'' (1969) was a major intervention in feminist performance practices and public art. The proposal argued for an intimate relationship between creative production in the public sphere and domestic labor--a relationship whose intricacies Ukeles has been unraveling ever since. In 1977, she became the unsalaried Artist-in-Residence for the New York City Department of Sanitation, a position that enables her to introduce radical public art into an urban municipal infrastructure.

For the first time, this publication brings together the Mosaic works by the British artist Stephen Willats, which were created in Great Britain and Finland in the 1990s. In these works, Willats uses the medium of the book to enter into an exchange with people and to create a space in neighborhoods, museums, and bookstores where social bonds can be established. It is a collaborative process through which Willats redefines the web of relationships between artist, artwork, audience and society; a process of instituting in which the artwork becomes its own institution.

The publication features an interview between Nango and Indigenous architect David Thomas about an abandoned military barracks’ transformation into Canada’s largest urban reserve.

In 1977 Ingemo Engström and Gerhard Theuring embark on a journey through France. They trace the escape route of the German emigration in France 1940/41, documenting the places, talking to witnesses, relating the temporal layers. The film ESCAPE ROUTE TO MARSEILLES that was the result of this journey, carries the subtitle “Images from a working journal (1977) on the novel Transit (1941) by Anna Seghers”. Produced by the WDR, it premiered in Mannheim and had success at international festivals. Accompanying the film, Theuring and Engström conceived an issue of the journal Filmkritik that extends the movie, comments upon it, provides an insight into the research and production process. On the occasion of its theatrical release in Great Britain, Framework: The Journal of Cinema and Media published the comprehensive essay by Engström and Theuring in English translation. HaFI 009 republishes the essay from Filmkritik and its English translation in facsimile.
