State of Sabotage's Stamp Edition

Poor Man's Expression examines the relationship between film, video, technology, and art, with a particular focus on the reciprocal influences between conceptual art and experimental film. The publication is based on the eponymous exhibition in Berlin in 2006, but represents an independent compendium of texts and images beyond the show.

This publication documents the ceramic works of the Viennese company Brüder Schwadron, known for its distinctive tile and architectural ceramics that adorned numerous residential and commercial buildings around 1900. Accompanying the exhibition, the book includes new photographs by Lisa Rastl, historical imagery, and scholarly essays by Rainald Franz, Andreas Lehne, Kathrin Pokorny-Nagel, and Tina Zickler. At its core, the project continues an act of remembrance—tracing surviving examples of the firm’s work and acknowledging the aesthetic contribution the Schwadron family made to Vienna’s urban culture. The company and family, both of Jewish origin, were destroyed under the Nazi regime. This volume forms part of an ongoing, participatory research initiative aimed at re-inscribing these erased histories into the city’s cultural memory.

Auch wenn Prince sich mit vordergründig Banalem wie den Motorhauben von Autos beschäftigt, gelingt es ihm, diese in einen Schwebezustand zu überführen, der gleichermaßen dem Trivialen wie dem Auratischen verhaftet ist.

For his solo presentation in the main room of the Secession, Christopher Wool has selected 20 drawings as well as 32 large format works on aluminum and canvas, which were all made during the past year and largely especially for this exhibition. They are particularly distinguished by a new colorfulness.

Lawrence Weiner’s WHEREWITHAL treats the book not as documentation but as a continuation of sculptural practice by linguistic means.

In 1991 the city of Zoetermeer built a tubular bridge across highway A12 in the city colours yellow and blue to connect the centre with new housing estates at the edge of the city. Hundreds of times Jan Dirk van der Burg crossed the bridge, after all it was the shortest way to the only coffeeshop in town. He even developed a knack for taking his bike up the escalator as you had to in order to access the bridge.

Hans Schabus' works are immediately related to a spatial thinking and experience; his sculptures and interventions often refer directly to the artist's mental and physical surroundings, especially to his atelier and the material to be processed there. The works can be read as a meditation on the creative act, its aspirations, but also on the difference from everyday activity. The film works that deal with traveling, speed and non-goal-oriented movement refer to the significance of an interdisciplinary reflection for art.

Ursprünglich in poliertem Nickelstahl und Messing ausgeführt, blieben diese seit 1989 mehr als zweiundzwanzig Jahre lang verhüllt, respektive weiß überstrichen, wohl um deren eigensinnige Präsenz als vermeintliches Otto-Wagner-Zitat zu neutralisieren.

Drafting Defeat republishes a collection of Al Istakhri’s highly stylized 10th century maps of the Middle East, printed with the legends that accompanied them in a 1933 Soviet edition of Persian bureaucrat Nasser Khosrow’s Safarnameh (Book of Travels).
