Die Umorientierung vom "Was" auf das "Wie" eines Tuns hat die Kulturwissenschaften erfasst, und nicht nur sie. Im Windschatten dieser an Performance, Inszenierung und Performativität geknüpften Diskussion hat auch die Performance Art neuerliche Beachtung und Aufwertung erfahren. Der sie kennzeichnende, körperlich aufführende Vollzug erhob sie zum Musterbeispiel dieser Entwicklung – allerdings nur unter Ausblendung jener Momente, die sich schlecht dazu fügen: den Beziehungen, die sie zum Bild oder Bildhaften unterhält.
