The first monograph by Taiwanese artist Chen Chieh-jen (b. 1960, Taoyuan) appears in the Secession’s publication series.

Designed in various shades of black, the book centers on the artist’s recent film Worn Away (2022–23), presented at the Secession. It includes Chen’s introduction to the film, sketches and handwritten notes from the working process, as well as a selection of video stills.

An essay by Jon Solomon, professor of sinology in Lyon and Paris, provides contextual analysis of the new film and situates it within Chen Chieh-jen’s artistic practice. Each copy of the book contains a paper bookmark printed with the image of a disposable RFID wristband—an object that plays a key role in the film—which has been hand-stamped by the artist with the Chinese title of the work.
