Colatra Areal
This book brings together two artists and two projects: Heribert Ottersbach (born 1960) dealt extensively with Brohm's ‘Areal’ series of works on the transformation of urban structures,
while Joachim Brohm (born 1955) focused on Ottersbach's photographs, which were taken after a visit to the Portuguese island of Culatra. The works created during the collaboration between the photographer and painter prove that two completely different places in Europe – an industrial area on the outskirts of Munich and a tranquil Portuguese island – can lead to abstract images with strong similarities when viewed through the respective media, without losing their individuality. Ottersbach transforms compositional and content-related aspects of Brohm's documentary photography into genuine works of painting. Brohm, in turn, focuses on Ottersbach's painting more in the sense of a motivic reworking. The book presents numerous juxtapositions of the artists' works, documents the creative processes, and shows sketches and other accompanying material.
