Im Zuge der Recherchen für die neue Ausstellung stieß das kuratorische und wissenschaftliche Team in den Sammlungen des Staatlichen Museums Auschwitz-Birkenau auf Ansichtskarten mit österreichischen Sehenswürdigkeiten. Auf deren Rückseiten zeichnete der polnische Auschwitzüberlebende Jan Kupiec nach seiner Befreiung 1945 in Mauthausen/Ebensee Szenen aus den Konzentrations- und Vernichtungslagern Auschwitz und Birkenau.
