Die____________ Ausstellung was conceived as a continuously changing exhibition in which installation, presentation, and dismantling all became visible parts of the work.

Die Ausstellung was based on a simple but unusual principle: the exhibition was never static. Installation, presentation, and dismantling were treated as equally important phases and took place continuously throughout the duration of the project. Each participating artist installed a work in the same exhibition space, presented it for one day, and then dismantled it so that the next position could take its place.

The result was a permanently changing exhibition in which no final or stable configuration existed. What visitors encountered depended entirely on the moment of their visit: a work being installed, a completed presentation, or the process of its disappearance. The exhibition thus shifted attention away from the finished display toward the temporal and procedural conditions through which exhibitions are produced.

The concept was developed by Alexander Basile and Alwin Lay and brought together a succession of artistic positions within a single shared space. The project took place at KIT – Kunst im Tunnel in Düsseldorf.
