Erratic: Visual Impact in Current Design
Change is one of the few constants. Recently, more and more images have been capturing not just a moment in time,
but also pointing directly to a change that could – or will – occur in the next moment. The book Erratic brings together current works by designers, photographers and artists who explore – sometimes in a playful way – the interplay between stability and instability, symmetry and asymmetry, pressure and counterpressure. At first glance, things appear to be in balance or symmetry, suggesting stability. But the images shown here tell stories, or rather, they allow the viewer to develop stories in their mind towards an inevitable event. The current explorations in Erratic ultimately revolve around the question of what narrative qualities, what stories, can be inherent in an image. At the same time, the works point out that any state of supposed stability or balance could come to an abrupt end at any moment.
