Fredrik Værslev
Fredrik Værslev: Open Window documents the artist’s exhibition at Kunstnerforbundet in Oslo, created on the occasion of the 100th anniversary
of the gallery’s renowned skylight room. The publication combines archival materials, critical essays, and documentation of the paintings and spatial interventions that Værslev produced for the show.
The book focuses on the complex relationships between painting, architecture, and framing—starting from a literal window in the artist’s former apartment and extending into considerations of how visual experience is shaped by physical and institutional contexts. The Open Window paintings and installations reflect on the act of seeing and the architectural conditions that frame both art and everyday life.
Through essays and reproduced works, the publication positions Værslev’s practice at the intersection of traditional painting techniques and conceptual inquiry. It highlights how his work expands the understanding of painting by engaging with space, memory, and the material traces of lived environments.
