Announcements, letterheads, bank documents, signs, advertisements, labels... these are just some of the many

items marked with the seal of elegance and sophistication characteristic of script, a typeface with thick and thin strokes that imitates handwriting. The examples of script fonts collected in this book have been selected from hundreds of sources: typographic catalogues, magazines, newspapers, advertisements, stationery, packaging, signs... They all date from the early 20th century, the heyday of script fonts, and come from the five countries where they were most widely used: France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy and the United States. Some script fonts were very common, while others, much more delicate, could enjoy the same impact and fame as a hit song or novel. Script fonts have never gone out of fashion, and the hundreds of previously unpublished examples presented here will inspire today's graphic designers.
