With the Édition Séparée, a series has been created that aims to give artists the opportunity to produce authentic contributions to the tradition of the artist’s book. Without any art-historical explanation or interpretation, each volume in the series contains only what the artists themselves wished to realize. Number 15 of the Édition Séparée is a compendium of drawings by the artist Irmel Droese.

Irmel Droese, born Irmhild Rodenacker, is a German artist who began her studies at the Werkkunstschule in Mainz and completed them as a master student under Joseph Beuys in Düsseldorf. She finds her artistic expression in vocal and theatrical improvisations, as well as through self-made hand puppets, drawings, prints, painting, and much more.

Text contributions to Édition Séparée are written either by the artists themselves or by authors chosen by them. Particular importance is placed on ensuring that these texts accompany and complement the artistic contribution without offering interpretative interference.

This artist’s book series, edited by Reiner Speck and Gerhard Theewen, presents, in rapid succession, contributions by contemporary artists created specifically for the series, sometimes supplemented by texts.
