In Memory
Omer Fast explores the mechanisms of experience, memory, and history in his work.
His point of departure is often concrete events and incidents, which he examines through interviews and reconstructions from different perspectives. The layering of narrative and representational forms is among the defining characteristics of his filmic works. For Fast, narration does not constitute a closed continuum, but rather a structure of different narrative levels that is continuously reshaped through repetition and reproduction.
This book is conceived in a similar way. The texts on his work are supplemented by an extensive apparatus of notes that expands on the subjects addressed while also introducing an additional, partly fictional layer into the critical discussion. The result is a publication that goes beyond documenting the work and itself develops a multilayered reflection on image, narration, and perception.
