In his collages Danish artist Jakob Kolding blends black and white xerox copies of diverse motifs: details of famous modernist buildings (e.g. by Mies van der Rohe or Le Corbusier) stand beside examples of „brutal“ 70s architecture like it is found in suburban areas.
Images from youth and music culture are added to that. Jakob Kolding who himself grew up in a model town in the suburbs of Copenhagen, deals with the gap between the idealistic vision behind those homes and the sadness which actually inhabits them. He examines the political and social structures as well as the private interests of people living in those surroundings, like soccer or music. The latter plays an important role for Jakob Kolding‘s work, especially in relation to the formal correspondences between electronic minimal music and suburban architecture.
