Kaleidoscope Issue 01
Rare BookThe issue introduces the editorial approach that would define the magazine in its early years:
an international, interdisciplinary view of contemporary visual culture, combining artist features, interviews, essays, reviews, and thematic sections. KALEIDOSCOPE No. 01 marks the launch of the Milan-based magazine for contemporary art and culture.
A central element of the issue is the beginning of Paola Nicolin’s column On Exhibition, devoted to the history of exhibitions. In this first instalment, Nicolin discusses This is Tomorrow, the landmark exhibition held at the Whitechapel Gallery in London in 1956. The column uses historical exhibitions not as closed episodes, but as models through which current questions of artistic production, curating, display, and institutional practice can be reconsidered.
The issue also includes news, reviews, and a thematic section on exoticism curated by Andrea Viliani. As a launch issue, KALEIDOSCOPE No. 01 presents the magazine as a platform situated between contemporary art, publishing, criticism, and visual culture.
