The Austrian artist belongs to the international avant-garde. He likes to move in the border areas between installations, performances and the classical genres of sculpture and drawing. Behind his superficially humorous work lies a flash of social criticism. In his installations from the series ‘Fat Cars’ or ‘Fat Houses’, he addresses the obsession with slimness and obesity, while in others he takes a critical look at fashion and advertising. Cars and houses, as the central fetishes of consumer culture, play a recurring role in Wurm's work.
On the outer wall of the MUMOK in Vienna, he installed the sensational installation ‘House Attack’: a single-family home as a symbol of private life and security, but also of small-mindedness, crashes into the façade of the museum like a bomb.
