Luc Tuymans: Graphic Works 1989-2012
Rare BookOverview of more than 20 years of graphic work, using various techniques: from photocopying and lithography to in-situ projects and installations.
Luc Tuymans is undoubtedly the best-known living Belgian artist on the international scene. As with his painted oeuvre, his annual production of graphic work is rather limited. And just as with his paintings, quality is paramount. Thanks to collaborations with renowned publishers and master printers, Tuymans has been able to build up a considerable graphic oeuvre.
Luc Tuymans. Graphic Works 1989-2012 offers an overview of more than twenty years of graphic work, encompassing various techniques, from photocopying to screen printing, monotype, lithography, aquatint, heliogravure, in-situ projects and installations. Several case studies shed light on the preparation and creation of Tuymans' printed works. Using previously unpublished source material and proofs, Polaroids and watercolours – including items from the archives of master printer Roger Vandaele and Luc Tuymans' studio – the process of analysing and translating images, colour separations and proofs is explored in depth. The book concludes with a glossy overview of Tuymans' complete graphic oeuvre between 1989 and 2012, ranging from a photocopied portfolio with a selection of Tuymans' early drawings on suites such as The Spiritual Exercises to the masterpiece The Rumour, a spatial installation that brings together a series of monotypes and a model in one edition. An exhibition featuring a selection of Tuymans' most important graphic work is in preparation.
