Luigi Ghirri / Kodachrome
Luigi Ghirri’s Kodachrome, first self-published in 1978, is both an avant-garde manifesto for photography and a key work within his oeuvre.
Long out of print, this facsimile edition preserves the original design, text layout and image sequence, while using new scans from Ghirri’s original film material.
Combining the directness of an amateur photo album with a precise conceptual sensibility, Ghirri turns his attention to everyday surroundings: postcards, advertisements, walls, windows, potted plants, landscapes and people. His photographs often show images within images, reflecting on how reality is mediated, framed and reproduced. With dry wit and quiet precision, Kodachrome examines the relationship between landscape, perception and the visual codes through which the world becomes legible.
This edition includes a booklet with an essay by Francesco Zanot, offering a contemporary perspective on the historical significance of the book, alongside French and German translations of the original English and Italian texts.
