Making Something from Some Things

For the exhibition Making Something from Some Things, the living room on the 3rd floor of the Badischer Kunstverein will become an exhibition space. This room is usually made available to artists as a temporary living and working space during their production residency in Karlsruhe. The opening of the space offers the public a

glimpse behind the scenes and at the same time questions common modes of (re)presentation. The exhibition thematises the domestic space as a feminist production and potentially emancipatory venue. Making Something from Some Things reifies the potential of "female" creative production in the care with and in domestic space. This becomes a site of negotiation in which the (primarily non-male) body makes something with/ in/from/for it. At the centre is the thing, or rather the obsession with the thing. Formed into an obstinate semiotics, articulated through the vocabulary of styling and in the form of overtrained and overstylised things that testify to a certain "creative restlessness".
