Marc Camille Chaimowicz - a folio - secession
Rare Bookavailability unknown, if interested please write an email
Rather than a conventional catalogue, the publication takes the form of an artist’s portfolio: a gathering of loose pattern sheets, a facsimile letter by Chaimowicz, and a booklet with exhibition views and a text by Silvia Eiblmayr.
The format reflects Chaimowicz’s practice, in which interior, decoration, design, painting, furniture, and publication are treated as interconnected artistic fields. Portfolio with five loose pattern sheets, a facsimile letter, and a booklet with text and exhibition views.
Chaimowicz’s work is characterized by a deliberate crossing of boundaries between fine art and applied art. His patterns, textiles, furniture, ceramics, and spatial arrangements question the hierarchy between artwork and domestic object, between exhibition space and interior. In A Folio for Secession, this approach is translated into the structure of the publication itself: the portfolio is not simply a record of the exhibition, but an object to be handled, rearranged, and read through its materials.
The Secession exhibition presented an environment developed especially for the space, bringing together wall designs, patterned surfaces, furniture, curtains, paintings, and delicate objects. A Folio for Secession preserves this atmosphere through fragments rather than through a linear documentation. The loose sheets, letter, images, and text form a publication that mirrors Chaimowicz’s interest in elegance, intimacy, ornament, and the unstable relationship between art, design, and everyday life. A Folio for Secession was produced in connection with Marc Camille Chaimowicz’s exhibition at the Vienna Secession, which took place from 20 November 2009 to 24 January 2010.
