MOTORMOND 1

Errant Black Girlhoods
€ 21.00

An extension of the non-profit gallery and cultural platform of the same name based in Amsterdam, Motormond is dedicated to centring Black queer artists and "circulating pan-diasporic culture."

The first issue of this visually striking publication borrows its title, Errant Black Girlhoods, from a 2023 photography exhibition curated by the organisation. Designed with a collage-like visual language—featuring exhibition images layered over rich gradients—the magazine opens up discursive space for aesthetic and political reflections. It includes an interview with curator and editor-in-chief Musoke Nalwoga and a joint text by artists Keren Lasme and Nella Ngingo, who explore the notion of Black errantry in both word and image. Ngingo’s self-portrait graces the cover, anchoring the issue in a poetic visual gesture. More than a document, Motormond functions as an editorial extension of the gallery’s curatorial practice—expanding its mission into print and offering a tactile forum for diasporic artistic thought.
