My Mental Body

Anna Daučíková’s work investigates the perception and construction of the body, identity, and subjectivity. Since the 1980s she has developed an artistic practice that combines film, photography, installation, and text.

Central to this practice is an interest in states of “in-betweenness,” where identity is understood not as a fixed category but as an ongoing process.

The notion of the “mental body,” which Daučíková introduces in this context, describes an experience of corporeality that exceeds biological or socially prescribed definitions. The body appears as a field shaped by perception, memory, and social relations.

The publication My Mental Body develops these questions through a series of conversations between the artist and several collaborators from the fields of art and theory. The dialogues explore ways of articulating experiences of non-normative corporeality and reflect on the political and social conditions under which such experiences can be expressed.
