Nalini Malani – The Rebellion of the Dead

€ 35.00

Indian artist Nalini Malani is considered a pioneer in film, photography, video art and performance, combining modern and contemporary art in her country.

Her works critically examine the political situation in India and draw on Western traditions in art and literature as well as typical Indian iconography.

The Centre Pompidou is now showing the first retrospective of Nalini Malani. The exhibition and catalogue cover almost five decades of her work, with pieces from 1969 to 2017. To mark the occasion, the artist is also reviving the ‘video shadow play’ Remembering Mad Meg (2007), a work from the Centre Pompidou's collection. The fundamental ideas underlying her work are clearly illustrated here: utopias, dystopias, her view of India and the position of women in the world.
