"If I can't dance, it's not my revolution"
"Dans edemediğim devrim, benim değildir"

No artist, ever since the beginning of the century, has introduced a fruitful restlessness to the Turkish contemporary art scene as comprehensively as Halil Altindere did. A couple of years ago, I had described this new art scene, represented almost playfully by the work of Altindere, as politically engaged, aesthetically radical, cheeky and fresh. These attributes also describe his work included in the upcoming exhibition.

Halil Altindere distinguishes himself as the moderator of the last Turkish art scene. He achieved this as the curator of reputable exhibitions, as well as a successful publisher, publishing books on Turkish art. The last but not the least, he is an artist who thinks and acts politically. His works encourages one to think about the social and politcal reality of his country, Turkey, though intelligent and often provocative intentions. This is achieved through an ice-cold irony specific to the artist, that is very well balanced between intimacy towards the represented and the distance established between the same.
