Pionier I was first presented in Spring 2011 as part of a solo exhibition of Nicolai’s work at the Contemporary Art Centre (CAC), Vilnius, Lithuania.

»Every work in this book ascends from a certain state of affairs, a certain knowledge in the system of coordinates: it's the speed of light, the interaction of forces, the functioning of magnetic fields and heat waves, the accumulation and dissolving of particles. This is the plane of reference which actualizes chaos, puts it into the system of numerical and countable multiplicities.
