Sabine Schirdewahn - Of Love And Care
Of Love & Care is a photography book by Sabine Schirdewahn that investigates the presence of memory, intimacy, and absence through domestic
interiors in Iceland. In a series of visits to private family houses in places such as Siglufjörður and other fishing towns, Schirdewahn documents interiors that have remained largely unchanged over decades — domestic spaces preserved by their owners like informal museums. The images focus on the traces of lived experience — the way personal belongings, architectural details, and objets d’art embody stories of care, attachment, and remembrance. By photographing these spaces with subtle lighting and composition, the artist reveals how environments carry both the visible and the invisible aspects of personal history: evidence of affection and labor, but also of loss and fading presence. The work moves beyond portraiture of people to portray the emotional imprint of environments, conveying how places themselves can act as witnesses to love and care, as well as to solitude and change.
