For over twenty years, Lewis Koch has been exploring themes of political and personal mythology in his large-scale photographic assemblages and installations.

At the invitation of the Nexus Press residency program, this specially designed series translates three of Koch's totems into book form. Addressing such issues as the human urge to subjugate nature (Book One), rampant militarism and overpopulation (book Two), and the tenuousness of the current social fabric (Book Three), these latter-day totems are both invocation and invective.
