Trespassing Houses x Artists
When artists engage with the house, it is transformed. Their artistic interpretations stand in stark contrast to the conventional dream of home ownership.
In collaboration with the New York-based architecture firm OpenOffice, contemporary artists Kevin Appel, Barbara Bloom, Chris Burden, Jim Isermann, T. Kelly Mason, Julian Opie, Renée Petropoulos, David Reed, and Jessica Stockholder explored the concept of “home,” moving beyond constraints such as size, location, affordability, or architectural conventions. Especially in an era when privacy is dwindling and social bonds are weakening, the forms of living must be redefined. As a place of retreat and security, the house is the architectural challenge that must meet the highest aesthetic, social, and psychological demands. The publication, designed by Los Angeles-based designer Michael Worthington and OpenOffice, documents fresh, radical reflections on the various functions, forms, and meanings of the house and dwelling, from design to realization. Exhibitions: Bellevue Art Museum, Bellevue, Washington.
