TXT IMG is both a catalogue raisonné and an artist’s book, bringing together 41 projects by Katharina Gaenssler,

from her first photo installation in 2003 to the recent project Bauhaus Staircase installed in the stairwell of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Similar to her photographic installations—which are composed of hundreds of individual images forming large-scale spatial works—the monograph itself is structured through the contrast between fragment and whole. It includes all 34 texts written about Gaenssler’s work to date, as well as the entire body of 407,954 photographs she produced as the material basis for her projects.

Across the pages of the book, these countless small images form abstract color sequences that, when seen as a whole, open up a new reading and become a photographic manifestation somewhere between color code and dynamic surface.
