Valie Export: Erinnerungsstätte Allensteig / Allensteig Memoria
availability unknown, if interested please write an email
At the center of this work is a critical engagement with the military training area of Allensteig in Lower Austria, a site marked by forced displace
ments during the National Socialist period and by the long-term transformation of its landscape. The location is approached not merely as a geographical territory, but as a layered field of memory in which political history, individual biographies and contemporary use intersect.
The artistic intervention employs spatial markers, documentary material and media-based strategies to render suppressed historical strata visible. Memory is conceived not as a static reconstruction of the past, but as a dynamic process that connects perception, interpretation and collective responsibility.
The accompanying essays situate the project within broader discourses on memory culture, the landscape as a carrier of historical experience, and the capacity of contemporary art to critically reflect historical narratives while activating new modes of remembrance.
