Rachel Whiteread - Walls Floors and Stairs

Rare Book
€ 78.00

The publication documents Rachel Whiteread’s exploration of architecture, space, and the traces embedded in everyday structures. Walls, doors, floors, and stairs become sculptural forms and carriers of memory.

Walls, Doors, Floors and Stairs was published in 2005 on the occasion of Rachel Whiteread’s exhibition at Kunsthaus Bregenz. The publication focuses on central motifs in the British artist’s work: architectural elements such as walls, doors, floors, and stairs, which Whiteread transforms through casting, inversion, and displacement into autonomous sculptural forms.

Her works render spatial voids, absence, and memory materially perceptible while examining the relationship between the body, architecture, and the built environment. Essays by Mario Codognato, Richard Cork, Richard Noble, and Juhani Pallasmaa approach Whiteread’s practice from art-historical, architectural, and theoretical perspectives. The publication was designed by Walter Nikkels and appears in German and English.
