“Krieg und Poesie. scrivere la guerra” is a project and publication that examines the impact of war on art and culture, with particular emphasis on literature’s role in processing experiences of conflict, violence, and displacement.

It features work by the Ukrainian-German poet Yevgeniy Breyger and the Syrian poet Kholoud Charaf. The book emerged from a workshop in South Tyrol and was hand-produced using a Risograph technique, which lends it a distinctive tactile and artisanal quality.

Background and content
The project and publication ask how literature and the arts can give language to war, foster understanding, and build bridges between cultures fractured by conflict. They address the personal and collective traumas of violence, flight, and exile.

Contributors
Yevgeniy Breyger – a German-language poet born in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
Kholoud Charaf – a Syrian poet writing in Arabic.
ZeLT and franzLAB – organizations that initiated the project and produced the publication.

Production
Part of the “Cento” series, the book was made during the “Tsamisdat” workshops in the Vinschgau region. It employs Risograph printing, giving each copy a unique, handcrafted, haptic quality. The texts appear in the authors’ original languages, accompanied by translations into German, English, and Italian.
