William N. Copley: Among ourselves
€ 58.00
William N. Copley (1919–1996) was initially an American gallery owner representing major surrealists such as
René Magritte, Max Ernst, Yves Tanguy, Joseph Cornell and Man Ray, before deciding to become a painter himself in 1947. He moved to Paris, developed his own distinctive style and found his themes. His subversively banal works are now regarded as a link between Pop Art and Surrealism. The monograph shows Copley's highly abstract figurines from American everyday myths, his cowboys and pin-up girls, erotic and pornographic fantasies, presented in a seemingly naive manner, alongside set pieces from everyday life and fetishes, which are catalogued without comment.
