This exhibition catalogue, edited by Hans D. Chris and Iris Dressler and published in 2005 by Revolver – Archiv für aktuelle Kunst, documents a presentation dedicated to drawing by

Michael Borremans, Fernando Bryce, and Dan Perjovschi. The bilingual publication (German/English) includes reproductions of the exhibited works and situates the three artistic positions within a shared curatorial framework.Although differing significantly in method, all three artists approach drawing as a central and autonomous medium.

Michael Borremans is known for his meticulously executed figurative works that combine technical precision with psychological ambiguity. His drawings and paintings often reference historical visual traditions while staging subtle distortions, artificial poses, and unresolved narrative situations.

Fernando Bryce works primarily through the method he calls “analysis by reproduction.” He redraws historical printed materials—newspapers, pamphlets, political documents—by hand in ink, thereby re-presenting and re-contextualizing archival imagery. Drawing becomes both an act of copying and critical historiographic reflection.

Dan Perjovschi employs drawing as an immediate, conceptual and often site-specific practice. His works frequently consist of rapid, text-based or diagrammatic wall drawings that respond directly to political and social conditions. Humor, reduction, and graphic economy are central to his visual language.

The publication brings these distinct approaches into dialogue, presenting drawing not as preparatory practice but as an independent field of investigation. The catalogue functions as documentation of the exhibition and as a focused overview of three divergent yet conceptually grounded positions within contemporary drawing.
