„Keines meiner Werke befriedigte mich außer Chiquenaude“, erklärte Raymond Roussel in seinem 1935 posthum erschienenen Werk "Wie ich einige meiner Bücher geschrieben habe" rückblickend auf seine schriftstellerischen Anfänge. Diese im symbolischen Jahr 1900 veröffentlichte Erzählung liegt nun mit sieben weiteren Texten aus Roussels Jugendzeit erstmals in deutscher Übersetzung vor.

Similarities between them abound, and can also be perceived in minute biographical details, accidents, and coincidences. Their well-known penchant for treating aesthetic issues as issues of methodology provided all three of them with the impetus to devote themselves to technical innovations, which is maybe a lesser known aspect of their respective works.
