What at first sight seems to be an ironic and humourous reply to the frequently touted purity in minimalist art represents the very substance of Erik Steinbrecher's work: "Minimalist Kitsch" signifies a productive contradiction between reduction and immoderation.

Erschienen zur Ausstellung A Town (Not a City), Gruppenausstellung Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen, kuratiert von Giovanni Carmine und Thomas Boutoux veröffentlicht in Zusammenarbeit mit bookhorse, Zürich.

Im Herbst 1997 wurde die Freie Universität Bozen gegründet. Ziel ist es, die neue Hochschule in ein Netzwerk europäischer Universitäten einzubinden.

During years Erik Steinbrecher sorted out daily dirt, leftovers and all kinds
of wrappings. The design of this artist book is based on photographes
of made layouts of waste, moody notes, scribbelings and liquid stains.

His mustache looked like it would tickle. That’s probably the only reason why I didn’t want to kiss him.

The context is Russian. Topical. The country on everyone’s lips!
Steinbrecher had gone to the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg, and littered the place with his ‘embassy’ of red socks.
