Hans Schabus, der durch eine Reihe kühner Projekte wie seine Bootsfahrt durch die Wiener Kanalisation 2002 oder die Überbauung des österreichischen Biennale-Pavillons 2005 in Venedig bekannt wurde, erweitert mit seinen Raumvermessungen beständig die Möglichkeiten der Bildhauerei.

Kapitel No 44: "The Chart“, gestaltet von Hans Schabus. Über den Zeitraum von 11 Jahren erscheint monatlich ein Kapitel von Moby Dick Filet bis der gesamte Roman wieder zusammengefügt ist.

Hans Schabus' works are immediately related to a spatial thinking and experience; his sculptures and interventions often refer directly to the artist's mental and physical surroundings, especially to his atelier and the material to be processed there. The place where art is created is investigated in terms of its analogy potential with respect to life. The works can be read as a meditation on the creative act, its aspirations, but also on the difference from everyday activity. The film works that deal with traveling, speed and non-goal-oriented movement refer to the significance of an interdisciplinary reflection for art.

In enger Zusammenarbeit mit dem Künstler erscheint anlässlich der Ausstellung »Das Rendezvousproblem« ein Künstlerbuch, das der künstlerischen Strategie mittels Bild-, Text- und Konzeptmaterialien folgt und den Entstehungsprozess der aktuellen Arbeitenfür das Kunsthaus Bregenz protokolliert.

Für die Biennale in Venedig hat Hans Schabus unter dem Titel "Das letzte Land" ein Projekt entwickelt, das den denkmalgeschützten Bau von Josef Hoffmann in einem künstlichen Berg versteckt. Die Arbeit gehört zu den meistbeachteten der diesjährigen Biennale.

Im Sommer 2015 durchquerte Hans Schabus auf seinem Fahrrad die USA von West nach Ost. Täglich an high noon fotografierte er was ihn umgab und des Abends sandte er eine Postkarte an sich selbst.
