The topic featured in this issue of Landscape is test sites. It emerged from our work in the High Desert of California where time seems to lose meaning. Geologists refer to it as the stratified landscape of deep time, exposing human experience amd interaction as comparatively short lived and fast paced.

The basic idea of this issue of landscape is to explore the field of landscape design with narrative tools. In doing so, new questions arise about how we see and use landscapes within stories of everyday life, work, science, politics, fiction, movies, dreams, or the news.
